5 Sourdough (and Sourdough Discard) Recipes I Love!

I’ve been trying lot’s of sourdough recipes since starting my own sourdough starter in March 2023. Here are 5 sourdough recipes (and sourdough discard) recipes I love!

Since becoming the proud owner of a sourdough starter (her name is Genevieve!) I have found it’s really important to have recipes ready to go for the active sourdough once it’s fed AND for the discard you remove before you feed the sourdough starter.

Click the bold titles below to go directly to the recipes on the authors websites.

These are not my recipes, just ones I’ve tried from other bloggers and I wanted to share with you all so you can check them out too! You’ll have to visit each bloggers site to see the actual recipes, they are linked in the bold titles, hover and click to go to their websites.

The pictures and videos below are mine! These are pics and videos of the recipes I took after I made them! Happy Baking!

Sourdough Pizza Crust from Alexandra’s Kitchen

I was searching online for an easy sourdough pizza crust for beginners and I found this recipe, I’m so glad I did! I’ve have been making this recipe almost once a week for months now! It’s so good, and a great way to use my active starter.

Now we have homemade pizza night about once a week, or if we skip a week I freeze the dough to thaw out later. It’s just as good after it’s frozen.

Alexandra’s step-by-step pictures and video make it super easy to follow along, and I found it super easy even as a beginner. Her blog is full of tons of great recipes and she has a cookbook too!

I don’t have a pizza steel so I use my cast iron pan to cook the pizza and it works great!

Easy Whole Wheat Sourdough Sandwich Bread by Farmhouse on Boone

I tried a few different bread recipes for whole wheat sandwich bread before I found this winner from Farmhouse on Boone.

My first batch turned out perfect and I decided this is my staple recipe moving forward! I’ve been baking this one each week for about a month now.

I love that the recipe uses honey to sweeten the bread instead of regular sugar and it’s so easy to make it using my stand mixer.

It’s the perfect bread for toast, sandwiches, grilled cheese, and french toast so far! I slice and freeze the loaf on day two if we aren’t going to finish it all, and then take slices out of the freezer as I need them so we always have fresh bread.

Here is a video of me making french toast using this Easy Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread! Check out the recipe HERE!

Sourdough Chocolate Chip Cookies by Farmhouse on Boone

Another recipe I love from Farmhouse on Boone, her blog is full of great ideas! This one uses the discard from a sourdough feeding. I’m finding it’s important to have a few recipes you want to cook with the discard each week as well as active starter, (or I end up hoarding it in a jar until it goes bad lol).

I just made these for the first time yesterday, so I’ve only made one batch, but we love them so far!

They turned out perfect, I did the full two day ferment in the fridge and highly recommend following her advice on that! These will become a staple treat for us and a great way to use sourdough discard.

Sourdough Pancakes by The Clever Carrot

A great recipe to use up sourdough starter discard! This was one of the first recipes I found in March after starting my sourdough starter, quickly realizing I needed something to do with the discard.

This recipe has become another staple in our house. I like to freeze the leftover pancakes between sheets of parchment paper in an airtight container in the freezer. When you want a quick breakfast just microwave one for 30 seconds to a minute and it’s just like fresh.

The sourdough discard gives these pancakes a delicious flavor and fluffy texture that box mix cannot compete with, try these once and you’ll never go back!

Easy Sourdough Sandwich Bread by The Clever Carrot

One more from The Clever Carrot. This was the first loaf of regular white sandwich bread I tried, and I loved it! You might have seen my video of this on social media, it turned out great!

If you are looking for a white bread sandwich loaf this is my winner so far! Easy to follow recipe and it’s just like bread from the store as far as appearance and texture go, but without all of the nasty additives.

I also slice this up day two and freeze it to keep it fresh if we aren’t going to use it immediately, since there are no preservatives it only lasts about 3 days out.
